Structure Fire Townes at Buckwalter

May 23, 2016 – At approximately 8:30am the Bluffton Township Fire District and Beaufort County EMS were dispatched to 139 South St for a reported Structure fire. 911 caller reported a fully involved townhome with people possibly trapped inside. A Bluffton Fire Inspector arrived on scene first and confirmed a working fire and was trying to verify the entrapment. Due to the quick response times, the Engine Company was able stretch a line and start fire attack while the crew from the Truck Company started searching for possible victims. The search of the homes showed nobody was inside.

It took crews approximately 40 minutes to bring the fire under control and an additional hour to overhaul (Check for hot spots) the residents. There were no injuries to any civilians or emergency responders reported. The family dog to perish in the fire.

Bluffton Township Fire District Fire Marshall’s Office is investigating the fire.

Bluffton Police Department was also on scene.


2016 Prom Promise

March 29, 2016 Several agencies participated in a "Prom Promise" demonstration at the Bluffton High School. This demonstration was to show the horrific consequences of drinking and driving. Agencies involved included, Bluffton Township Fire District, Bluffton Police Department, Beaufort COunty EMS, Beaufort County Coroner, and Life Star Medivac Helicopter. All of the actors were BTFD Explorers and moulage was done by Lindsey Tuten and Nichole Miller from Beaufort County EMS.


MVC With Entrapment

February 15 , 2016 – At approximately 5:30pm the Bluffton Township Fire District and Beaufort County EMS were dispatched to a reported motor vehicle collision on May River Road. Engine 321 arrived on scene and reported two vehicles with heavy damage. After further size-up, Engine 321 Officer reported two entrapped and requested and additional Engine Company and Truck 375. The working incident also brought Battalion 2 to the scene. The vehicles were so far apart that the scene was divided into two separate incidents. Engine 321 and 324 each took a separate vehicle while Truck 375 split their crew between the two. It took personnel approximately 30 minutes to extricate the patients. Due to weather, all patients were transported by ground. A total of 5 patients were transported. Bluffton Police Department is investigating the incident. May River Road was closed for about 2 hours during the incident and clean up.


BTFD Responds to Roll Over in Sun City

February 2, 2016 – Bluffton Township Fire District and Beaufort County EMS crews work at the scene of a wreck near Sun City Hilton Head at Strawberry Lane. Capt.

One person was flown to the hospital Tuesday after a crash at Sun City Boulevard and Strawberry Lane. The Bluffton Township Fire District and Beaufort County EMS responded to the crash around 5:15 p.m. and extracted one person from a vehicle before the person was air lifted, according to Capt. Randy Hunter. No information on the severity of injuries or circumstances of the crash has been released. The crash is under investigation by the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office and the SC Highway Patrol.

USCB Public Education Event

February 2, 2016 – Public Education Officer Lt Lee Levesque assisted by Shift One personnel, conducted a side-by-side burn demonstration on the campus of USCB. The demonstration showed the importance and value of residential  sprinklers. During the burn, two identical rooms were constructed. One room was equipped with a residential sprinkler head and the other was not. Each room was then set on fire separately to show the difference.
