Explorer Post

ABOUT EXPLORER POST 241
The Bluffton Township Fire District Explorer Post is a learning for Life program under the Boy Scouts of America. The program gives youths age 14 to 20 first-hand experience in the fire and rescue career field.
Weekly Explorer Post meetings are held from 6-9 pm on Mondays at the BTFD Training & Maintenance Facility, 19 Ulmer Road. The meetings combine physical fitness, classroom work, and hands-on fire and rescue training. The meetings are held in conjunction with the Bluffton High School Firefighter I and II programs. Some of the skills the Explorers will learn include:

  • Radio communications
  • Ladder raising
  • Hydrant operations
  • Nozzle work while flowing water,
  • Bunker gear drills,
  • Hose rolling and packing
  • CPR training and certifications
In addition to being full-time students, the Explorers are active members in the community, volunteering their time at a variety of Bluffton events throughout the year.
At the end of the year, the Explorers will apply the skills they've learned to fight a simulated fire under close supervision of the Bluffton Township Fire District.
