Permits, Safety, and Fireworks Regulations

Fireworks displays are prohibited in both the Town of Bluffton and unincorporated Beaufort County without proper authorization. If you are considering hosting a fireworks display, here’s what you need to know:

Hosting a Fireworks Display

To legally hold a fireworks display:

  • You must obtain a permit from both South Carolina State Fire and the Bluffton Township Fire District.
  • A dedicated fire safety crew from Bluffton Township Fire District is required to be present during the entire display. Please contact the Fire Marshal’s Office to coordinate this coverage.
  • Permit applications and additional information are available on the South Carolina State Fire website.

Beaufort County Ordinance:

“Fireworks shall not be discharged within the county except by special permit issued by the local fire chief, or his designee, and the state fire marshal for public display by a licensed pyrotechnician.”

Town of Bluffton Ordinance:

“Except as provided in this article, it shall be unlawful for any person to fire, shoot, discharge, offer for sale, store, exchange, give away or possess any fireworks within the corporate limits.”
