Burn Responsibly
Rules, Regulations, and Registration for Outdoor Burning
The Town of Bluffton and Beaufort County each have their own regulations regarding open burning. Before starting any outdoor fire, you must determine which jurisdiction’s ordinance applies to your location. If you’re unsure, the Bluffton Township Fire District’s Fire Marshal can help clarify which rules you need to follow.
Important:
State law requires anyone burning outdoors to call the South Carolina Forestry Commission hotline to check if weather conditions permit burning. This is a recorded message and does not require speaking with a person.
