Essential Safety Information for Older Adults and Caregivers

Senior Safety & Preparedness

Promoting Fire and Life Safety for Our Older Adult Community

Our mission is to empower seniors and their caregivers with the knowledge, tools, and support needed to live safely and confidently. Through prevention, education, and direct services, we aim to reduce risks and enhance quality of life for our older residents.

Connecting With Seniors โ€” One Visit at a Time

Whether you host a community gathering, retirement home event, or senior center meeting, our team is available to:

  • Offer fire and life safety demonstrations tailored for older adults

  • Lead discussions on fall prevention, smoke alarm safety, or disaster readiness

  • Provide one-on-one safety checks or consultations

Our Senior Resource Programs

At Bluffton Township Fire District, we know that seniors face unique challenges when it comes to fire and life safety. Thatโ€™s why we offer dedicated programs designed to support older adults and their caregivers. From free smoke alarm installations and fall prevention education to emergency preparedness planning and CPR awareness, each program is built to reduce risk and promote independence. By providing practical tools, tailored resources, and community connections, we help ensure Blufftonโ€™s seniors can live safely, confidently, and with peace of mind.

Home Safety & Smoke Alarm Program

We provide free smoke alarm and carbon monoxide detector installations, battery checks, and safety visits for seniors. Specialized bed-shaker alarms may also be available for residents who are hard of hearing.

Fire & Fall Prevention Education

Our team offers presentations and resources designed to reduce senior fire and injury risks. Topics include cooking safety, proper use of heating equipment, and simple steps to prevent falls, such as removing trip hazards and improving lighting.

Emergency Medical Form

The Emergency Medical Information form helps seniors and caregivers record important health details. Placed in an accessible spot, this form allows first responders to quickly access medical conditions, medications, and emergency contacts.

Senior CPR & AED Awareness

We provide CPR and AED awareness sessions tailored for seniors and caregivers in a comfortable learning environment. These programs make lifesaving skills approachable and give participants confidence to respond during an emergency.

Emergency & Fire Escape Planning

Our preparedness program helps seniors and caregivers build personalized emergency plans. We cover hurricane readiness, senior-friendly โ€œgo kits,โ€ and fire escape strategies that account for mobility needs and assistive devices.

Child Passenger Safety for Grandparents

Many grandparents help with transporting children, and we are here to keep them safe. Our technicians provide car seat inspections, installation assistance, and education to ensure every ride is as safe as possible.
