Station 30 is located in the heart of Old Town Bluffton, proudly housing Engine 330 and Beaufort County EMS Unit 6. This station has a rich history dating back to the original Town of Bluffton Fire Department, which operated out of a small block building near today’s DuBois Park. Staffed entirely by volunteers, the department served a one-square-mile area. In the late 1970s, the station moved to the corner of Bridge Street and Burnt Church Road, a transition that marked the formation of the Bluffton Township Fire District and the hiring of the town’s first paid firefighters through the establishment of a special purpose tax district by Beaufort County.
After nearly four decades at that location, the Fire District broke ground on October 9, 2012, for a new public safety campus on a nine-acre parcel at the corner of Burnt Church Road and Ulmer Road. The new facility was designed to include a maintenance building, a four-story multi-use training tower, and a modern fire station. Station 30 officially opened in August 2013, with a certificate of occupancy issued on July 31, 2013. The completed station spans 7,212 square feet and was constructed at a cost of $2.2 million.
Today, Station 30 plays a vital role in Bluffton Township Fire District’s operations. Its first-due response area stretches from Simmonsville Road to Sawmill Creek Road along Highway 278, and from Buckwalter Parkway to the Alljoy area along the May River. While much has changed since its early days, Station 30 remains deeply rooted in tradition, continuing its mission to proudly protect Old Town Bluffton and embody the enduring spirit of the Bluffton State of Mind.
