Explorer Program Application

Dear Parent/Guardian and Prospective Explorer,

Thank you for your interest in the Bluffton Township Fire District’s Explorer Program. This packet contains important information and required forms that must be reviewed and completed prior to acceptance into the program.

Students must return the completed admission application by the specified deadline to be considered for admission during the school year. If you have any questions about the program or application process, please contact Senior FF Matthew Wallett or Lt. Tyler Marion at 843-757-2800.

This online application helps assess a student’s commitment and potential for success in pursuing a fire service career. Please review the following:

• Parental permission is required to apply.
• Up to 25 students may be accepted per program cycle.
• Admitted students will be eligible for advanced training in the firefighter career path.
• Participants are selected based on program availability and screening criteria.
• The program demands a high level of dedication, maturity, and responsibility.

Participation Requirements Include:

• Reliable transportation to and from the training site (19 Ulmer Road) and related agency activities
• Practice and mastery of key skill competencies
• Strict adherence to all safety guidelines and BTFD policies

Additional Considerations:

• Students must be at least 15 years old by the program start date
• A dress code is enforced. Students must supply their own black steel-toe boots, black belt, and white or black socks. All other uniform items will be provided.
• Students must be willing to follow immediate direction from fire department personnel during all training activities
• Any felony criminal charges may impact a student’s future in the fire service
• All participants must adhere to the Bluffton Fire District’s Code of Conduct and Substance Abuse policies, as well as the Explorer Code of Conduct
