Mission

The mission of the Bluffton Township Fire District’s Community Risk Reduction Division is to identify risks and hazards in our community through data interpretation and community input and to design and implement public education programs in order to prepare our community for and thereby reduce the impact of emergency events.

What is Community Risk Reduction (CRR)?

Community Risk Reduction (CRR) is the identification and prioritization of risks, threats and hazards followed by the implementation and evaluation of strategies to lessen their impact.  The District along with county and town leaders, and the community, obtain input and reviews data to improve preparedness during and prior to emergency events.

In October 2008, the US community of Fire Safety Professionals and Advocates met in Washington DC to identify goals in making communities safer from fire loss and prevention.  As a result, Vision 20/20 Community Risk Reduction was born.  State Fire along with South Carolina Fire departments made a pledge to reduce fire and fire related deaths with Fire Safe South Carolina. The goals and objectives  of Fire Safe South Carolina is to provide consistent fire prevention messages, improving data collection therefore identifying risks and creating programs to target the risks.  The District through its public CPR program, Smoke Alarm program, operation safe kids, has received the States Fire Safe award for 3 years in a row.  With these partnerships, the District strives to reduce risk for our citizens and visitors to keep them safe.
