Bluffton Pkwy & Buck Island Rd collision results in fatalities

Bluffton, SC (July 10, 2023, 2:30 p.m. EDT) – An early morning, two vehicle collision at the intersection of Buck Island Road and Bluffton Parkway in Bluffton resulted in a loss of life. Multiple public safety agencies responded to the location around 5:45 a.m. A nearby resident reported the incident from a cell phone and alerted dispatchers to a possible severe car crash in the area.

Two passengers in a minivan sustained fatal injuries.  Both were transported to a local emergency room where they succumbed to their injuries. The driver of the van was not transported.  The driver of the other vehicle involved, a pick-up truck, was also not transported.

Firefighters from Bluffton Township Fire District stations 30 (Old Town), 33 (Buckingham), 35 (Fording Island Rd.) and 38 (Hampton Pkwy), along with South Carolina Highway Patrol, Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, Beaufort County EMS, Beaufort County Coroner’s Office, and the Bluffton Police Department worked at the collision scene until approximately 7:00 a.m. when the road was reopened to traffic.

The collision remains under investigation by South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Beaufort County Coroner’s Office.
